Melissa Steckbauer: Biography

I have studied Art History at Universiteit Utrecht, Fine Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, and I conducted artistic research at the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University. I am the founding director of the Sensorium Institute in Berlin (2019-) and a freelance writer; I was the founding director of the project space, The Wand (2012 – 2014), a member of ƒƒ (2103 – 2016), a coproducer of LSD Galerie (2012 – 2013), and a cofounder of the curatorial collective, Secondary Narratives (2014), all of which were developed in Berlin.

I am represented by Skopia Art Contemporain in Geneva, Riccardo Constantini Contemporary in Turin, and The Drey in Toronto. My work has been featured in Castello di Rivoli—Museum of Contemporary Art, Rivoli; KW, Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin; Deutsch Bank KunstHalle, Berlin; Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art, Riga; Teatr Studio at the Palace of Culture & Science, Warsaw; District, Berlin; Kunstsaele, Berlin; Le Salon Du Dessin, Paris; Cité internationale des Arts, Paris; and Ito Folk Museum, Fukuoka, Japan.
